Following the thread of my last NYFW post (here), another topic that people ask me a LOT is how to call the attention of photographers during Fashion Week. It’s a funny one, though, and very thought-provoking!
Going to a fashion week should be, to a blogger or to any fashion personality, THE chance that they’re gonna have in the whole year to really extrapolate in their personal expression through clothes. But there’s kind of like a science to it. The trends that cool hunters collect from fashion week to build reports takes street fashion during the shows a lot into consideration. So, it is the ‘role’ of show goers to study the context of fashion at that time and forecasts for the season to, then, reflect everything in their looks. So… it’s not just putting a watermelon in your head and expecting to be clicked (it might happen, though!).
Go to the main shows’ venues too, even though you were not invited. There’s gonna be a BUNCH of street style photographers around the main venues, and that’s for sure. Give a special thought to the outfit that you’re going to wear to go to those venues, though, because you’re gonna be ‘competing’ with major street style stars, celebrities, and bloggers.
Small shows also count. In fact, you have a lot more chances of being photographed there.
Act cool and busy. Nothing says more ‘street style’ than a person dressed very very cooly holding a cell phone and looking busy. Also, try to give them your best angles while doing that.
If you get clicked, don’t go away just yet! If the photographer is not in a rush, it’s a great opportunity to network. Ask for his card and, as I mentioned in my previous post, ALWAYS have a business card on you.
While being clicked, walk on broad steps, they look just great on pictures!
