I always get a lot of questions from my friends (especially the ones that are not involved with the fashion industry) regarding how to make a better use of what they have in their closets. Surprisingly for them, the answer is not always ‘oh just have essential statement accessories and you should be fine with mixing and matching them’. So, today, I’ll tell you all my style tips that will change your life.
Nope, I did NOT invent them, but I really take inspiration from everywhere: magazines, bloggers, Peclers and WGSN ‘super-forbidden’ books that are available at FIT library, etc. So, I guess I can make a good assemble here.
This is definitely my favorite style trick. I love to take my really basic shirts that I don’t use in a while and first put them as a strapless top, and then taking the sleeves and tying them right below my chest. You can do it with a denim jacket, your husband/boyfriend’s shirt, and wear only this or throw a t-shirt or a sweater underneath for an office/fall/winter look.
Ok, you can say ‘oh, Gabi, you said accessories are not always the answer’. I know! They are not necessarily, but the point of this section here is to show that you can use your scarf in other places that are not your neck. I, for example, love to wear it on my up bun, one of my wrists, or even on the ankle when I’m wearing culottes. For a summer look, I like to do a small knot and use the scarf as a tiara.
During the Fall and Winter seasons, I can wear literally all my summer dresses and overalls by layering cool sweaters underneath them. The coolest thing about layering is that it works for dresses, strap and tube tops. I love to wear a nice boyfriend shirt with a basic tube top over it: its elasticity highlights my silhouette in the right places while the shirt gives my look a laid-back and cool touch.
The versatility of boyfriend/mommy jeans
I guess that what I love the most about boyfriend jeans is that they can be the stylish piece of your ‘jeans and t-shirt’ look and they can break the over-sophistication of a silk shirt + stiletto look. They are super versatile and, girl, you need to have it! The mommy jeans, though, is my favorite. It just adds elegance and a retro vibe to an all-simple look.
A knot in your T-shirt
Pretty self-explanatory, right?
A knot in your sweater!
Not only t-shirts are entitled to the benefits of a well-made knot. With fall coming, you’d better tie a knot in your sweater too! It will make it waaay more stylish!
