If you love fall as much as I do and live in a big city (like NYC, in my case), you’ll probably want to go somewhere calm and on the countryside to see the fall foliage – and take lots and lots of pictures! Well, here, we decided to hit the road last weekend and go to upstate New York – just about 3 hours away from the city, depending on where you go – to take a break from the city and get more autumnal, because, honestly, it’s still pretty much warm here in the city.
After a lot of research, we found out that Catskill Park and all the counties it includes is the best place to see the changing of the colors of the leaves. Sooo, up we went…
A couple of things you should know before you hit the road…
The fall foliage doesn’t happen in a uniform way throughout the state. So, before you leave, check out the foliage report on this website here, so you can know what are the places that are peaking at the moment.
In our case, the foliage was peaking on Margaretville and Sullivan County. Margaretville, by the way, is a super cute little town that’s definitely worth a visit.

Always stay alert on the road for breathtaking views, because the region is full of beautiful lakes and streams, so get ready to stop the car at any time!

Pumpkin patches are always a good place to stop if you’re looking for instagrammable places! We stopped by Pierson’s farm. It’s probably not the MOST photographable places, but it’s the one we spotted first on the map, and even so got pretty good pics there!
