With all the new trends that emerge every season, I know many women get confused about which pieces they should really invest on, and which ones are fads that they will end up using much, much less. Don’t worry! Hopefully, this post will help you build the perfect (capsule) Fall wardrobe mixing classic staples with affordable ones.
Key Fall High-end Staples
1 – A good white tee
My Acne Studios tee is, by far, my favorite staple for any season. During the summer, I wore it in a million ways (see post here). This fall, this is my absolute go-to piece to wear under blazers and coats.

2 – A neutral sweater
Fall is my favorite season to rock neutral tones (I’m pretty much an all-black kinda woman in winter time). I highly recommend having a high quality neutral-toned sweater that can last for many seasons. This is a timeless piece that is definitely worth spending some more money on.
I love sweaters made of Merino wool or Alpaca fiber. Especially with Alpaca, the long durability is guaranteed and it will hardly peel (as long as it’s made with high quality Alpaca fiber. Always try to get some knowledge before you spend your $$$).
3 – A dark pair of jeans
That’s another staple you can – and will – also wear throughout the Winter season. Although flare cuts are trending right now, you’ll find that the ankle-height cuts will allow you to have more versatility to mix and match and wear it with sneakers, ankle, western and Chelsea boots, or just flats if it’s not too cold.
4 – A camel coat
A good old camel coat NEVER goes out of style. I love the options with wider sleeves that allow you to wear a chunky sweater underneath it, just so I can keep on wearing it through the winter.

5 – A leather jacket
I don’t think I need to say anything else, right? A good leather jacket that lasts for years is the right bet for your wardrobe.
6 – A basic turtleneck to layer
Ok, so this is the best trick to keep on wearing your summer or transition blouses in colder days. To make them warmer, layer a long-sleeved or even a sleeveless turtleneck underneath. No need to thank me! LOL!
7 – Comfy pair of sneakers or boots
If you live in a big city, like I do, I would definitely recommend getting a good pair of sneakers. Besides keeping you comfy while walking long distances or commuting, they can be worn pretty much all year long.
Maybe my Acne Studios sneakers are not much of a classic and timeless piece, but I can assure you I wore it frequently enough to make my cost per wear very close to ZERO! Besides, chunky sneakers will stay strong next season.
Affordable options for your Fall wardrobe
1 – Plaid blazer
Plaid blazers are around for so many seasons already that I almost put them on the staples list. But I’m seeing so many plaid variants this fall, that I decided to put it on the affordable side, since I don’t believe it’s worth spending loads of money on it. However, it’s a must-have piece on my Fall wardrobe!
2 – Varsity sweaters
I love the varsity sweater trend! But it’s definitely a fad with not much of a long lifespan, so I also recommend you get an affordable one.
Also, I assure you won’t wanna wear such unique pieces (they usually have those ‘v’ designs) very often throughout the season. Not that you should care, but I’m sure you’ll eventually get sick of them. 😉
3 – Leopard and snake print blouses
VERY IN-TREND right now. But also not sure how long it’s going to last, since people tend to get sick of animal prints very quickly.
I would recommend you to go for the affordable options on this one, unless you want to wait until the trend circles back again. I also think blouses can be worn more often through the season, so I’d definitely go for them!
4 – Fun printed dusters
Especially if you live in warmer places and your Fall is milder, this is a very interesting piece to have on your Fall wardrobe. My favorite is the snake print duster, that is very fall-ish. They are great to add something extra to your Fall looks.
5 – Western and sock boots
Western boots are also really trending right now. Since they’re not exactly classic pieces, there’s nothing wrong with getting cheaper or mid-priced ones.
You can find really good quality boots at average price points. Sock boots are also super nice to have and can be worn a lot of times during Fall. I went for the cheaper option, though, and have mine since last season. Super worth it.
6 – Fun rain capes
Also a great way to be stylish on rainy days (trust me, there are lots of those during Fall). My go-to rain cape is this vinyl one that looks super chic, but was actually very reasonably priced. I love the transparent ones too!

I hope that post helped you guys! Of course, it’s super hard to build a complete collection of fall staples in only one season. But why not start building your staple wardrobe this season and continue the work next year?! Let me know your thoughts here in the comments!
