Of all the cities I have visited before, Tokyo was FOR SURE the one that took my breath away the most. For me, it was like being in another planet. I guess I get that feeling very often when I’m in Asia, but Tokyo is just something else – in the best possible way.
My time in the city was short, but just enough for me to cover most Instagrammable spots I wanted to go. I was there for a seminar, which was amazing but left me little time to tour around Tokyo. However, you can never underestimate the efficiency of someone who works with Instagram HAHAHA!
Before we begin, take a look at my favorite Tokyo hotels here.
If you are just like me and LOVE a good picture for the gram, then check out the list I prepared for you 🙂

Most Instagram-worthy Places in Tokyo
A quick straight-to-the-point guide for a practical traveler
1 – Kabuki-Cho, Yasukini-dori and Streets of Shinjuku
Shinjuku was my favorite neighborhood in Tokyo. I mean, Harajuku gave it a run for its money, but I feel like I loved every corner of Shinjuku – and not only ‘for the gram’! This part of the city had the most interesting restaurants and bars, and a super narrow mysterious little street with tons of tiny bars where only locals were allowed – I’ve been told it was something related to the mafia, but let’s say I didn’t really want to know too much lol!
2 – Stylenanda
You will definitely recognize this big and trendy South Korean store if you are an avid Pinterest ‘pinner’ like me (guilty!). It’s definitely worth to go and check out their latest collections and see what they have going on inside the store. This little corner is a famous one for pictures!
3 – Harajuku
The cutest little neighborhood! If you love people watching just as you love Instagrammable corners, this is the place for you. It has the cutest restaurants and stores, and also lots of cool thrift and vintage shops. You can literally find whatever here.
If you don’t like crowded places, I’d recommend you to come during the morning on a week day. However, if you want to see the famous Harajuku girls (picture below), go on a Saturday and you’ll see lots of them!
4 – Totoro EVERYTHING (and Pompompurin)
As a follower of @taramilktea, I have to say I was reeeeally looking forward to go to Totoro-themed places and have Totoro food and drinks (yes, I’m 28 and I’m nuts).
What I liked the most (although it was already too dark for good pictures) was the Totoro latte art from Reissue cafĂ©. It’s located in Harajuku and gets packed, so get there early 🙂
Restaurant-wise, I loved the interior of the Pompompurin restaurant. The dishes are also super cute, although the repetitive Pompompurin music playing throughout your whole meal will probably drive you crazy. If you want to go just quickly, I highly recommend their matcha dessert – It’s one of the best matcha sweets I’ve ever had.
5 – Yayoi Kusama Museum
When it comes to Instagram-worthy places, Yayoi Kusama is the master of it all. Her immersive art experiences have been going around the world for years until, finally, last year her museum was opened in Tokyo. Tickets are super hard to get and I highly recommend you try to purchase your ticket within 2 months in advance. It says there when the tickets to the 3rd month will start to be sold, and, if you want to guarantee your entrance and you have little flexibility of dates, I recommend you go on the website right at this opening.
6 – Omotesando Malls and Hill
This neighborhood breathes luxury in every corner, but even if you’re not into designer brands, it’s totally worth exploring Omotesando – not only for the Instagrammable corners, but also for the out-of-this-world retail experiences. Besides the unique Omotesando mall, that always has something artsy going on, also check out the signature Prada store with glass walls and designed by the Swiss architects Herzog and De Meuron.
7 – Hanazono Shrine
This was my favorite shrine in Tokyo. Ok, its kinda touristy, but totally worth going to, and also VERY instagrammable. We went there during the day, to also explore the surroundings (super cool streets!) and at night, to check out the night market they had going on – where you can get amazing food for low prices (super rare in Tokyo).
I really hope you enjoyed this guide to Tokyo, and I apologize for the quality of the images! My classmate was the one taking pictures, and I didn’t want to annoy her with shooting me repetitively! 🙂
