Positano Travel Guide

Posted on Location:

Hi guys!

It took a little while, but after a crazy week after getting back from Italy, I’m finally having time to write the Positano Travel Guide you asked for!

Our trip to the Amalfi Coast was super short, totaling 3 nights: 1 in Positano, 1 in Sorrento, and 1 in Capri. Although we didn’t have much time, I’d say that, if you only have 3 nights there, you can enjoy your trip fully and not miss a lot of things.

The most Instagrammable places in Positano

I wouldn’t be ‘me’ if I didn’t start this guide with the most instagrammable spots in Positano, so here we go.

1 – Beach Clubs at Positano Spiaggia

To get the famous picture at Positano’s main beach, my advice is to rent a sunbed in one of the many beach clubs available. The one I chose was L’Incanto and I definitely recommend you look for the ones on the far opposite side of your picture background, like this one. The other one I recommend is the La Scogliera, which is on the rocks and also perfect for pictures!

For this second picture, if you want something similar, you should stay a little bit longer at the beach and wait until the sun falls behind the hill. The light becomes perfect and, honestly, in most Amalfi coast cities, you don’t have to wait much for this moment. I’d say 5-6pm is the sweet spot for light!

2 – Franco’s Bar at La Sirenuse

Even if you can’t afford this 5-star hotel in Positano, you should definitely come for a drink at sunset time. The bar, Franco’s, gets pretty crowded, so get there as early as you can to guarantee your spot by the balcony.

3 – Fornillo Beach

If you have a bit more time in the city and want to escape the tourist crowds that go to the main beach, you can do a small hike to Fornillo Beach, which is right around the corner and really cute as well.

4 – Ceramics shops

Nothing screams ‘Positano’ more than a cute ceramics store! For me, it’s an unexpected background you can definitely use on Insta.

5 – Get lost on the many steps…

When you stay in a high place in Positano, the first thing that comes to mind is ‘oh my Gaaawd it’s so hot and I have to climb all of this after all these Aperol Spritzes?’ – am I right? But, for me, the staircase that led to my hotel (I stayed at the Hotel Regginello) also made me discover super cute hidden corners with breathtaking views of the city.

Where to stay…

That really depends on how much you’re willing to spend. I can speak with confidence that if you go between June and August, you’ll definitely pay a crazy amount of money to stay at an OK hotel. There are hotels in the neighbor town of Praiano that offer daily shuttles to Positano, so you can spend the day there and pay Praiano prices.

Another tip I give is to book your hotel with A LOT of time in advance! Most of them are super small and don’t have a lot of rooms for the huge demand that they get this time of the year. I loved the hotel where we stayed, Hotel Reginello. Our room had a balcony with a really good view and the location was great in spite of the crazy flight of stairs we had to climb on our way back from the beach and it was located right by a bus stop.

Where to eat…

I didn’t manage to eat in each one of those restaurants, but here are the ones that people recommended me the most:

Il Tridente

Really cool spot with great high views of Positano. Very romantic to go during sunset for a drink and dinner.

Buca di Bacco

In my opinion, this place is more of a daytime restaurant, although I did see many early dinners taking place there. It has a low view of the beach and it’s relatively good if you want to people watch rather than having a romantic intimate experience.

Ristorante Don Giovanni

This is another excellent restaurant with a high view of the city!

Ristorante Da Constantino

I really love this place. It’s not pretentious at all, food is very homey and tasty, the servers are super friendly, and the whole interior just reminds me of a traditional mamma’s house. Plus, if you go earlier in the night, you can catch the sunset and get a glance of their amazing views.

Chez Black

Very traditional spot by the beach. It can be a bit touristy, though!
