Happy Thursday, everyone!
*I’m actually surprised I even know what day of the week today is, and, just like for many of you, this isolation is also driving me crazy!*
Working from home is not something very new to my life. As a full-time blogger, I’m, of course, used to going out for a couple of hours a day to shoot street style shots and campaigns and attend events. Over the years, though, I had to develop a strict and organized schedule to optimize my productivity for those hours I spent WFH.
With that in mind, I’ll share with you here all my tips and tricks to make the best out of working from home and to achieve the best possible productivity! Ready?
1 – Set up your alarm to wake up early
This bit can be especially hard for those of us who are freelancers. When I had meetings and shoots scheduled for my afternoon, I always had to wake up at 7 am or earlier to be able to do all the admin work I needed to do from home + have time for myself. Keeping up with that routine can be hard when you have all this extra time at home.
Don’t fall into the ‘waking-up-late’ trap! Set up your alarm for the same time you would wake up to go to work and have that extra time to do an activity that brings you joy before you get to work.
2 – Make up your bed!
This little activity makes SUCH a difference in your morning to trigger your brain (and body!) and get it working. Plus, working from an organized home is great.
3 – Take some time for yourself
It’s SO easy for us to just go straight from our beds to our laptops and get started right away. Don’t do that! After you wake up, take some time to connect with yourself.
Have breakfast, do a meditation, read a book, listen to a podcast, work out… Do something that you like. It will set your mood for the day.
4 – Shower and dress up!
A (preferably cold) shower in the morning is the perfect thing to wake you up and get you going for the day. After that, dress up just as if you were going to your office or workplace! That little thing makes a huge difference in how you face your WFH day and in your productivity levels,
5- Organize yourself before you start
As a freelancer, I personally love to make achievable to-do lists for my day (very important that they’re achievable!). I also try to estimate how many hours I’ll spend working on each of those activities, so I can plan my day better. To-do lists are also the best way to know when to stop.
While working from home, it’s so easy to never stop and work until late hours with absolutely no need to do so. After you tackle your to-do list, shut everything down and go do something you enjoy! If you overdo one day, it’s hard to keep your pace on the next one.
